2008 College Golf CombinesSkills Scoring Information
The Combine Scoring Committee determined the criteria to score the results of the skills challenges at the combines. There were some skills scoring issues that the committee examined prior to determining the fairest approach for every participant. All Combine Skills Teams were selected using ONLY skills challenge results and not the tournament round. At the East Combine, due to weather delays a number of participants did not record any on-course driving distances. The committee considered all results, including partial results, to determine the final ranking. At the West Combine, on-course driving results were recorded and scorecards were available to the coaches on day 2. The ranking for driving distance was determined by the TrackMan results, after developing a combine specific program to score the information. The TrackMan system was also used at the West Combine to determine the average distance for each competitor's three shots to the 60 yard hole location.Approach Shots were scored as follows: East Combine - 1 point for each shot that lands within 30 feet of the hole location at 100 yards, 2 points at 125 yards and 3 points at 150 yards. West Combine – 2 points for each shot that lands within 30 feet of the hole location at 125 yards and 3 points at 150 yards.Short Game results were scored as follows: bunker and chip shots received 1 point for on the green, 2 points for within 12 feet and 3 points for within 3 feet; and 3 points for each successful chip landed within the 18 inch circle.Putting results were scored as follows: 2 points for each 5 foot putt holed; 3 points for each 10 foot putt holed; 4 points for each 20 foot (East) 25 foot (West) putt holed and 1 point for a missed putt within 18 inches past the hole; and 6 points for each 40 foot (East) 50 foot (West) putt holed and 2 points for a missed putt within 18 inches past the hole.
