     Coaches' Convention Combine
Unique Opportunity for Recruits & Coaches

Winning the conference championships, qualifying for the NCAA Regional and NCAA Championships are the annual goals of most College Golf Coaches.  To reach those goals, coaches spend a great deal of their time recruiting prospective student-athletes.  Coaches take various approaches to recruiting based on the admission requirements of their institution and the level of talent that they feel would fit their program.

The 2011 Coaches' Convention Combine allows coaches that are attending their annual coaches association convention to also do some recruiting while in Las Vegas.  There is no cost for coaches to attend combines, as they are open to all coaches.  When a coach arrives, they are provided a Coach's Book with resumes in the same format for each combine participant - no other junior tournament provides such detailed information.

The main purpose of the Golf Combines is to bring together recruits and coaches.  The combines are open to all recruits and provided a unique opportunity to have their games be evaluated by College Golf Coaches at every level.  For the coaches, the combines allow them to efficiently recruit multiple recruits and focus their evaluations on specific golf skills and shots that they feel are most important.

The fourth year of the College Golf Combines will conclude with the 2011 College Golf Coaches’ Convention Combine in Las Vegas on December 3rd & 4th.  This is a special event that is sponsored by the GCAA – Men’s Coaches Association – and NGCA – Women’s Coaches Association.  The combine is included in the convention schedule for the coaches and another large group of coaches are expected to attend the combine.  Click below for the updated list:

The one day showcase for the recruits allows them to gain valuable exposure to College Golf Coaches.  Recruits from throughout the United States and around the world will be in Las Vegas for the combine.  The limited field has spots available as of November 15th, 2011 and is expected to have a waiting list.  Any 2012 recruits that did not sign a Letter of Intent during the November early signing period should be at the combine, especially high school girls.  Parents of 2012 recruits may talk to coaches at the combine.  Almost half the field this year will be recruits from the 2013, 2014 & 2015 classes!

The coaches requested that the convention combine include some medal play competition in addition to all of the Skills Challenges and thus 6 holes of medal play on holes 7-9 and 16-18 has been added this year.  The combine will have recruits playing every shot in the bag under very unique pressure in front of coaches.  In addition, the convention combine results and digital Coach's Book will be sent to every College Golf Coach in the country.

The combines are an excellent complement for recruits that play 10-15 other junior tournaments during the year.  Some have incorrectly characterized the combines as a "camp" or "exhibition."  The combines are a true test of each recruit's overall golf game and the Skills Challenge results are helpful to both the coaches’ evaluation and for the recruits to identify parts of their game that need more work.

Most recruits have never experienced the pressure of playing certain shots in front of groups of coaches.  The Golf Combines have evolved over four years and are now an annual part of College Golf Coaches’ recruiting schedules.  Coaches are learning about recruits for the first time at combines and recruits are receiving golf scholarships that they would not have earned without participating in the combines.
